Jill Morgan-Meek looked at Oneonta and Otsego County and saw one thing missing in the area's media landscape.
"It was easy to get on the phone when you needed media with Oneonta," said Morgan-Meek, who moved to the area seven years ago from Rochester, where she worked in several marketing jobs. "We have newspapers and we have radio stations, but what we didn't have was a television station. The nearest television station is over an hour away."
In October 2017, Morgan-Meek bought Transitions Boutique, a Dietz Street consignment business that had been in the city for a decade.
"You know, as a business, you need all of those forms of media to reach people," she said.
ONEONTA – Though she calls it “Small Talk With Jill,” it could become anything but little.
“I know a lot of incredible businesses, and I asked myself, ‘What can I do to help them?’” said Jill Morgan-Meek, owner of Transitions Consignment Boutique, 6 Dietz St.
Ahead of opening his Oneonta office on Thursday, Feb. 7, Congressman Antonio Delgado, D-19, met with members of Otsego County’s small business community at Hartwick College’s Shineman Chapel this afternoon.
"As a new, small, local business owner, I wanted to express to the State of New York and the County of Otsego, through you, my sincere gratitude for the Summer Employment Program."
"In your line of work you know how hard it is to build a business however, I can say that because of this program it gave me the assistance I needed to take my business to the next level."
"It was a true delight to have Camillia Cimko represent my business and I could easily see the skills she built over the years through this program."
"Thank you again for helping to make a difference in my small business and I only hope that I was able to make a positive impact in the lives of the youths I worked with."
ONEONTA – When Jill Morgan-Meek first moved to Oneonta from Rochester, she would often drive down Lower Cross Road. “It relaxed me,” she said. “I was lonely, I didn’t know anybody here, but I always felt compelled to drive down that road.”
Jill Morgan-Meek found out her landlord, Linda McPhail, is also a distant cousin, related through the Peet family, which came to Oneonta in the early days.
Six years later, she discovered that Lower Cross Road, between East Street and Wilber Lake Road, was once the site of her ancestral home.
Transitions Boutique in Oneonta, opened in 2010, was facing closure this past fall, before Oneonta resident Jill Morgan-Meek seized an unanticipated opportunity. Morgan-Meek, who bought the 4 Dietz St. shop in late October, said, while store ownership was never on her radar, it nevertheless feels like fate.
“Small Talk” was inspired by “Follow Me Friday,” based in New York City and posted on talkradio.nyc. It’s hosted by social media personalities Joan Pelzer and Priya Nembhard, who highlight their favorite small businesses across the city and frequently invite Morgan-Meek as a guest. (In a recent show, she touted The Otesaga and other of her favorite dining spots.)
Director, Producer, Actress, Trisha Brouk, reminisces the stylish Joan & Priya on the 2018 TEDx Lincoln Square Red Carpet.

Mom of 7 children and 2 dogs!! Casey is also a Yoga Instructor and the owner of Spirit Song Yoga Center. She plays the guitar and sings and loves to attend musical events. Casey is also very athletic and looks forward to spending time outside kayaking, biking and hiking with her dogs. She loves the idea of sustainable fashion and of repurposing items that are no longer meaningful to others and creating her own style using thrifty fashion trends.
Casey loves vibrant colors and enjoys wearing things that allow her to freely and creatively express herself and bring joy to others. However, she is not always good at “completing” outfits; knowing what to wear with the fantastic “new” (used) items that she found. Thus, she ended up with lots of random items that didn’t seem to go together….and that is how she met Jill!!
One day, Casey wandered into Transitions Boutique and told Jill about this beautiful shirt that she had just found but she had no idea what to wear with it. Jill asked her about the color and style of the shirt and then suggested a necklace that would go well with it. Jill had never seen the shirt, but of course, the necklace was perfect with it and it made the outfit….the missing piece that tied it all together!!
And then it was the Symphony Season and Casey could not wear her Yoga outfits to the Concert Hall!! Jill found oodles of outfits that fit these occasions and Casey loved dressing up with confidence and style!!
We are pleased to share with you: Casey’s Closet…to illustrate many ways to put outfits together in ways that are fun and affordable. Enjoy some glimpses into Casey’s Closet and get some great ideas for your own wardrobe!! All that is required is tuning into your own sense of style and then letting your imagination carry you away!
